Council Post: The Effects Of AI On Child Psychology
Terence Mills, CEO of AI.io, a data science & engineering company that is delivering AI solutions in healthcare, travel and entertainment. We know that the future is bright, and lately, it's like someone has been turning up the contrast. We're fortunate to have the chance to lean into technology. For every misstep that the information age has bestowed upon us, we double down our efforts. We learn how to do better. After all, humans fall short when it comes to being infallible.
A Fresh Squeeze on DATA
Our children have the right to be AI-educated so they can thrive intellectually, emotionally, and morally alongside AI. In the next decade or so, for most children, AI will be their co-workers, drivers, insurance agents, customer service reps, bank tellers, receptionists, radiologists, in short, a natural part of their lives. That's why I am proud of our collaboration with Cloudera in making A Fresh Squeeze on DATA -- A picture book about problem-solving with DATA that encourages children worldwide to transform from passive spectators of technology disruption to active participants of positive change in their local communities and the world. We owe it to our children to help them understand and utilize the powerful tools of AI and thoughtfully weigh its moral and social implications early on. And this is what A Fresh Squeeze on DATA is all about.

The Sooner You Get Your First AI Job, the Better for Your Career
Artificial intelligence is already reshaping society as we know it in both business and consumer realms. Early use cases with Alexa, autonomous vehicles and AI-driven supply chains provide just a glimpse of the disruption that AI is poised to deliver in the near future and for years to come. Yet despite all the AI hype and initial successes, it remains in its infancy. That makes now the ideal time for young people to build the knowledge, skill sets and connections they need to capitalize on the fast-growing market for AI jobs and build a strong AI career. One reason is simply practical. Gartner predicts that AI may eliminate 1.8 million jobs by 2020, yet is on track to create 2.3 million new positions.

How AI, If Used Right, Can Become a Catalyst for a Positive Change in Our Society
Twenty years ago, setting up a timer to record on a tape your favourite TV show using a VCR device or recording a message on your voicemail was a total success in technology automation. Even the simple task of programming a digital alarm clock to wake us up at a certain time in the morning stopped being rocket science for some of us, fulfilling an inner desire to be part of a society that was unstoppably shifting into a digital transformation. This is just a small slice of how technology automation has changed over the past 20 years, and I assume we can all acknowledge that AI is gaining momentum, albeit regulatory authorities, legislators and lawyers not being fully sure how to adapt or embrace the change that's currently happening. Artificial Intelligence is here, it's the hot topic or the popular kid everyone wants to play in the park with. AI and automation are bringing us daily benefits; Internet and Big Data are becoming an essential part of both our work and private lives and we now have the capacity to collect huge sums of information too cumbersome for a person to process.

Programming Today's AI for Tomorrow's Gender Equality
Recent developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) are showing just how far we have come with the technology. Take for example the recent showcase from Google, where a telephone call is made by Google Assistant to book a haircut. The technology is now able to understand the nuances of conversation and is quite astonishing at first watch. With this ability to save time and cut admin, it is no wonder that adoption rates of AI in businesses have grown 60 percent in the past year alone. However, AI needs to be programmed by a human and in today's working environment, this can be problematic.

The sunny and the dark side of AI
MENTION ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, and most people will think of robots. But a more fitting image may be that of Janus, the Roman god of beginnings, transitions and endings, who has two faces looking in opposite directions. On one side are the positive changes that AI will bring, enabling people to achieve more, far more quickly, by using technology to enhance their existing skills. Recruiters will be able to pinpoint the best candidates more easily, and customer-service staff will be able to handle queries faster. Jobs that never existed before could be created.

Making Artificial Intelligence A Force For Positive Change In The Workplace
Do labor-saving and cognitive technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) make life better in workplaces, do they make things boring, or do they eliminate workplaces altogether? Some recent studies show mixed feelings about the potential impact. But if implemented with employees having to say in the process, AI can be a force of positive change. Business leaders are evenly divided on the link between AI, automation and productivity. At least half (50%) of 3,800 executives responding to a recent survey by Dell Technologies and Vanson Bourne think automated systems to free up time, while the other half disagrees.
